Kubeflow and MLOps Meetup Recap – May 2022

Kubeflow community news

Last week we hosted the May 2022 “Data Science, Machine Learning and Kubeflow” Meetup. Special thanks to our awesome speaker Guillaume Moutier from Red Hat. In this blog post we’ll recap some highlights from the Meetup and preview what’s next. Ok, let’s dig in.

Join a Meetup near you

First, if you missed last week’s Meetup? No need to suffer from FOMO. Here’s a list of the Meetups that are part of the “Data Science, Machine Learning and Kubeflow” Meetup network. Please join the one that is the most time friendly to your location.

We’re celebrating Mother’s day! Thanks for voting for your favorite charity!

With the unprecedented circumstances facing our global community, Arrikto is looking for even more ways to contribute. With this in mind, we thought that in lieu of swag we could give Meetup attendees the opportunity to vote for their favorite charity and help guide our monthly donation to charitable causes. The charity that won this workshop’s voting was Every Mother Counts (EMC). The Every Mother Counts is a non-profit organization dedicated to making pregnancy and childbirth safe for every mother. They inform, engage, and mobilize new audiences to take actions and raise funds that support maternal health programs around the world. We are pleased to be making a donation of $100 to them on behalf of the Kubeflow community. Again, thanks to all of you who attended and voted!

Talk: Unlimited Scientific Libraries and Applications in Kubernetes, Instantly!

Data scientists often need to work with lots of different libraries, languages, and applications, often with multiple versions. Conventional approaches in Kubernetes, with a legion of tailored images or a huge golden image, do not match the reality of production and prevent collaboration. In this presentation, we will see how you can leverage the concept of environment modules inside Kubernetes to make thousands of scientific libraries, languages and packages dynamically available in a simple way.

Guillaume Moutier is a Sr. Principal Data Engineering Architect at Red Hat, focusing his work on data services, AI/ML workloads and data science platforms. Former Project Manager, Architect and CTO for large organizations, he is constantly looking for and promoting new and innovative solutions, always with a focus on usability and business alignment brought by 20 years of IT management experience. You can find the slides for his talk here.
